Orbán meets and holds talks with Thai and Laotian counterparts
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with Phankham Viphavanh, his Laotian counterpart, in Brussels on Wednesday, the PM’s press chief said.
PM of Laos
Orbán and Phankham marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Laos and noted that Laos has opened its new embassy in Budapest, while Hungary will raise its diplomatic mission in Vientiane to embassy level next year, Bertalan Havasi told MTI.
Orbán expressed pleasure that Hungary and Laos continued to strengthen their economic cooperation “even in these crisis-hit times”. The two leaders also discussed the global political situation, agreeing on the need for an immediate ceasefire and peace talks in the Russia-Ukraine war, Havasi said.
PM of Thailand
Orbán met the prime minister of Thailand, Prayut Chan-o-cha, as well. Their talk focused mainly on strengthening economic cooperation. According to information from Orbán’s press chief, the two prime ministers agreed that their countries’ economies could contribute to each other’s performance rather than compete, which could facilitate much more dynamic cooperation in investment and trade projects.
The Thai prime minister thanked Orbán for Hungary’s ensuring scholarships to 40 Thai students each year to study at Hungarian universities. The two prime ministers mutually invited each other for an official visit to their countries.
